Sanja Marušić
Sanja Marušić (1991) is a Dutch-Croatian artist based in Amsterdam. She studied photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK) and graduated with honors in 2013. Since then, Marušić travels extensively to create otherworldly images. Her technique originates from photography with a shift towards painting and collage techniques, resulting in mixed media art. Through photography, she captures miniature performances in which a human figure (often Marušić herself in her own costumes), sometimes accompanied by someone else, mysteriously moves through a surreal landscape. The stories she creates often stem from her personal life. She manipulates her images, making the landscape and the moment itself more abstract, giving rise to a new world. She uses this surreal world as a form of escapism for both herself and the viewer. Folk art and naive art serve as significant wellsprings of inspiration for Sanja.
